About Me
I have been interested in photography for most of my early life, an interest that continued to grow throughout my teen and adult years. My first real break came when my parents bought me a digital camera for my high school graduation in May 2006. Even with this new technology, I was unable to really get out and use it until July of that year when my father and I went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens. After spending two hours shooting the daylilies that were in bloom, I came home to discover that I had actually taken some wonderful shots, and thus, I was bitten by the photography bug.

I consider myself to be a macro nature photographer as I enjoy to shoot close-ups of the subtly beautiful side of nature. I’ve grown up surrounded by nature as I was (and still am) a Girl Scout. I’ve always loved being outdoors and I feel at peace when outdoors surrounded by the natural beauty that is our gift of Earth.

I continue to go to the Botanical Gardens regularly as well as other sites around St. Louis and the surrounding area. Now, I am trying to juggle my time between college, work, and normal everyday life, but I still manage to make it out to shoot at least once a week. Currently, I’m going to school to obtain a degree in photography and hopefully that will lead to a promising career in the future.

In Decemeber 2006, my work was featured on CNN as part of CNN’s iReport project. The shot, which can be seen here was taken during the ice storm that hit the midwest with a fury. After recieving a call at 7am, I was excited to learn that CNN used my photo on their website, as well as on a brief clip that aired that evening. Although they didn’t pay, they sent me a lovely shirt that reads: “i Report for CNN”.

About My Equipment
For most of my photography I use a Canon Powershot A610. I’m currently using a Bower macro filter with 10x magnification for some of my newer macro shots.

When I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll whip out my Nikon N2020 35mm SLR. When using that, I use TriX400 speed film with my 75mm lens.

As of late, I’ve been using a borrowed Canon Rebel XT with a 60mm macro lens. So far I’m loving the shots and may need to invest in one in the future.

I saw where you are a new member to fotoTalk.com and thought I would visit your site. I was born in Sikeston,Mo and after graduating from SEMO in Cape Girardeau I moved to St. Louis and went to work for Ralston Purina. We lived on Flad street which was very close to the Botanical Gardens. I now live in Safety Harbor, Florida but will soon move to Paducah, Kentucky in the Lowertown Artist District to follow my passion of photography.
